New ad starts this evening with $500,000 buy on national cable.
WASHINGTON – Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) today is releasing a new TV ad focused on President Obama and his involvement with Solyndra, the failed solar energy company that squandered at least $535 million of taxpayer money.
Entitled “Typical,” the ad will run on national cable for ten days in a buy totaling $500,000. It can be viewed here.
The new ad focuses on the fact that Solyndra’s executives were major campaign contributors to President Obama; that they were able to leverage their White House connections to help secure a taxpayer-guarantee on a $535 million loan; and that the company dramatically failed to create jobs and instead left taxpayers on the hook for its losses. Instead of Obama being an agent of change in Washington, he participates in the games and cronyism of typical Washington.
Additionally, Crossroads GPS released a memo, entitled “New Crossroads Ad Confronts President Obama’s Crony Keynesianism,” which lays out the strategy behind the ad. From the memo:
“Solyndra and other examples of cronyism reveal the inherent folly of President Obama’s vision of a vastly larger, financially voracious government as a guarantor of economic prosperity and fairness. They help explain why conservatives (and most Americans, in fact) are suspicious of a government that amasses too much power and money for itself, even when motivated by good intentions. The Solyndra scandal also paints a far more complex portrait of President Obama’s modus operandi than the one he claims for himself: instead of being a neutral agent of change, it turns out that Obama is governing much like a typical Washington politician: doling out government largesse to political benefactors and exercising regulatory power to advantage favored constituencies.”
Jonathan Collegio, communications director for Crossroads GPS, said: “In his speeches, Obama promotes an idea for America that may work in theory but has a very ugly side in the real world – an economy based on backroom favors to the well-connected. The Solyndra debacle is an archetypal case of cronyism, where Obama’s fundraisers got sweetheart deals from the U.S. Department of Energy, and American taxpayers were left with the tab.”
Crossroads GPS is a policy and grassroots advocacy organization that is committed to educating, equipping and mobilizing millions of American citizens to take action on the critical economic and legislative issues that will shape our nation’s future.
